Kit Sebastian enchant their audience with pure pop bliss that blends a seductive complexity of sound layers with a hint of timeless nostalgia. The British-Turkish psych-pop duo from London, which formed in 2018, plays with global influences that – featuring vintage synths and a shot of melancholy – call the beaches of Bahia, the streets of Istanbul and retro Parisian cafés home. The psychedelic jazz-infused sound established on their debut album Mantra Moderne is taken further on their latest release Melodi, incorporating special-interest genres from Anatolian rock and French New Wave to sophisticated London jazz. The lavishly orchestrated production includes a motley collection of instruments – such as zithers, harpsichords, congas, bongos, tablas, balalaikas, organs and saxophones – that fit together perfectly to create one whole. As a result, it is not only the musical boundaries of this world that become blurred, but also those between the past and present.
